Kamil Dow is an artist, pastor and preacher. He creates qualities of his own within the culture of Arabic calligraphy. The Arabic letter seems to follow the artist’s command, doing with it as he pleases: he twists, turns, straightens, tilts and designs it anew, using it as a scaffold for a complete textual and visual building. His paintings appear independent of and disconnected from the letters, but nevertheless are built from the letters and texts. The words that are revealed in the paintings and formed by the letters are varied texts, including verses from the Old Testament and the New Testament.
Kamil Dow has displayed his paintings and calligraphic works in one-man exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Haifa, Tel-Aviv, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Daliyat el-Karmel, as well as the United States, Cuba, Portugal, Hungary, Qatar, and Finland.
